My Experience in HE

I am an expert in Higher Education Academic and Staff Development and Recognition, Inclusive Pedagogy and Curriculum Design with a focus on professional development and enhancement.

Since November 2018, I have been working as an independent consultant in HE.  My expertise covers working with individuals, with groups of academic leaders, with larger multi-functional teams, and focuses on teaching and curriculum quality.

I have designed and delivered teaching, professional development and consultancy across thematic areas including inclusive curriculum, diversity and equality in learning and teaching, assessment, practice-led educational scholarship, curriculum development and project management.

University Alliance

From November 2018, I was engaged by the University Alliance to lead the Teaching Excellence Alliance programme, developing CPD and networking activity in collaboration with academic and professional services staff and students.

I have developed resources to celebrate the UA student and employer-led approaches to learning and teaching.

In November, the TEA Sandpit was awarded the ‘Educational Development Initiative of the Year’ by SEDA in its annual competition.

CELT@MMU

My previous role from 2012 to January 2019 was as Head of Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching at Manchester Metropolitan University where I led Institution-wide provision of pedagogic enhancement, academic staff development, and curriculum improvement; this incorporated the leadership of teaching qualifications (F2F and online versions of the PGCert and Masters in Learning and Teaching in HE), the HEA Accredited MMU PSF Scheme and FLEX Academic CPD initiative, and targeted support for programme review, design and evaluation.

From 2006-12 I led Initial Teacher Education, Early Years & Childhood Studies, and Youth and Community programmes as Associate Dean for Student Experience in the Faculty of Education.  I worked directly with the PVC Education and with Faculty Heads of Education and Departmental Education Leads in each of the Faculties, coordinating learning and teaching provision for academic leaders, support for collaborative partnerships and non-core staff, all of which is designed to drive improved Student Engagement, Retention, Progression and Success.
